There's no doubt that advertising is essential to the success of your work from home business, whether it's large or small, new or old. If you don't advertise and market your work from home business, it simply will not succeed or last long at all. To ensure it's success, your business must market and advertise in some way. Most offline advertising costs money, except for word of mouth advertising, which is the best kind. However, many forms of online marketing and advertising are free.
Whether online or offline, word of mouth advertising can do wonders for your work from home business. In fact, it spreads even quicker on the internet. It is, in my opinion, the best advertising you can get. It also tells you that your previous customers or clients were happy and are spreading the word about your business. They'll usually tell they're friends, family and coworkers which will bring in new customers and more business for you. Another benefit from this type of advertising is that it provides credibility to you and your business.
Word of mouth is a wonderful and free way to get the word out about your work from home business, but it shouldn't be the end of your advertising efforts. You can't solely rely on and expect to see massive results from this. Some offline options include television spots, radio spots, billboards and print media. These are all effective advertising methods, but for a small work from home business they're usually unrealistic and quite expensive.
A more economical and yet very effective way is online marketing and advertising. The Internet is such an integral part of daily life now that it is hard not to advertise on the Web. You can potentially reach millions of possible customers and clients depending on what demographic you're trying to reach. The ways in which you can advertise your work from home business online is almost endless.
Some free and very effective methods of online promotion include email marketing, article marketing, blogging, search engine marketing (not pay-per-click), social networking, videos and much more. There are also many paid methods that work well also.
I'd like to just briefly go over email marketing and social networking as these are two methods I actively use to promote my work from home business. Email marketing involves emailing past customers or capturing the details of new prospects to announce new products, specials and to advertise. To capture new subscribers for your email marketing campaign, simply place a form on your website offering free information in return for your visitor's name and email address.
Social networking involves networking with other business owners or potential customers and clients in an effort to advertise your work from home business. I'm sure you've heard of MySpace, Facebook and Twitter. I believe Perry Belcher said it best that you need to treat social networking like a big party. You invite people in, get to know them, chat about anything under the sun, and if the opportunity presents itself, then advertise your business.
These two methods are free and are just a small taste of what the internet can provide for your work from home business. No matter what you're selling or promoting, advertising and marketing is crucial if you want to last. My advice is to learn as much as you can and then master only a few of the strategies until you get great results, then move onto the next method. Your work from home business will reward you in the long run.
